TIME: 10am - 2pm

VENUE: Homestead Building, Diamond Valley Arts Society, Edendale Community Environment Farm (30 Gastons Rd, Eltham VIC 3095)

DESCRIPTION:  When art competition judges discuss winning artworks, one of the things they always talk about is ‘excellent composition’. For beginners, composition may be hard to understand compared to other aspects such as selecting your subject matter, colours etc. It is crucial how we place and combine elements in our artworks. In this workshop, you will learn how composition theory developed over time, the way different schools and art movements approached it, and what’s current today. See how you should apply composition elements and principles (propotion, contrast, repetition, balance, movement, rhythm etc.) to make your artwork catch the eye of the viewer. Discover if you have an intuitive sense of composition, or your skills need developing through practice. This workshop is an organic combination of theory and practical work to improve students’ composition skills. A set of exercises will ensure that you learn in an easy and fun way.

testimonials

Anna's Art Deco workshop was both informative and inspirational.

Anna was very well prepared and organised and this made for a very relaxed environment where everyone was encouraged to participate and ask questions.

I had a great time and hope to join in on future workshops.

Hayley

As someone highly interested in art and history, I found the session “The Story of Art Deco” both entertaining and engaging. The educator, Anna @ etoYa* studio, demonstrated not only deep knowledge of the subject, but also true passion for it, and helped me discover the beauty and diversity of the style. I absolutely love the format of combining the lecture with discussion and practical art-making, which suits both absolute beginners and advanced artists. I will definitely attend other classes run by Anna - I hope she will repeat “Art Nouveau” sometime next year!

Olga

Anna conducted two wonderful workshops which combined art, culture and history.

In the beautiful setting of Edendale Farm's studios we listened to Russian music, watched videos of Russian dancing, nibbled on Russian treats whilst learning all about Matyroska dolls, and painting our own 2D and then 3D versions.

A very tranquil and peaceful experience! And the price was so reasonable.

Looking forward to what Anna does next!
